“"Just The Facts."”

Los Angeles, and Sgt. Joe Friday (Dan Aykroyd), nephew of the famous TV cop, runs his cases by the book, in full uniform and a flat voice. His new partner is Pep Streebeck (Tom Hanks), a young, loose-limbed detective who doesn't. Their first leads are robberies at the zoo and a stolen stockpile of magazines, which point to a cult working in the middle of the city. Tom Mankiewicz, directing for the first time, plays the old series straight enough to be the joke.
