“All you have to do is dream.”

Effie White (Jennifer Hudson) has the biggest voice in a Detroit girl group called the Dreams, which also includes Deena Jones (Beyoncé). In the early 1960s they take the soul singers' road toward the pop charts, with Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx) managing every step of it. Bill Condon adapts the Broadway musical with the Motown story close behind it, and the Dreams stand in a row on stage, three women in matching gowns.
