Drive My Car

“Go on living.”

Yūsuke Kafuku (Hidetoshi Nishijima), a stage actor and director, has spent two years unable to get past the death of his wife, Oto (Reika Kirishima). He accepts an invitation to stage Uncle Vanya at a theater festival in Hiroshima, where the festival assigns him a driver, the quiet young Misaki (Toko Miura). Ryusuke Hamaguchi adapts Haruki Murakami's story and keeps the two of them in the car, between rehearsals, with Yūsuke's old vehicle moving through the city.
