Juan Miranda (Rod Steiger) is a Mexican bandit with a big family, a loud mouth, and no interest in anyone's cause but his own. In 1913 he meets John H. Mallory (James Coburn), an Irish Republican Army explosives expert on the run from the British, and sees only a man who can blow open a bank. Sergio Leone puts the pair among revolutionaries in the first days of the Mexican Revolution.
