Duel in the Sun

(1946)Directed by King Vidor144 minWestern, Drama, Romance
“Emotions . . . As Violent As The Wind-Swept Prairie !”

Pearl Chavez (Jennifer Jones), a young half-Mestiza orphan, arrives at a big Texas ranch hoping to be taken in by the woman her late father once loved. She becomes the ward of the McCanles family, where the Senator's two sons, gentle Jesse (Joseph Cotten) and reckless Lewt (Gregory Peck), each pull at her in opposite directions. King Vidor shapes it as a story about desire and prejudice, and about how little room a girl like Pearl is given to choose for herself.
