“Some friendships are wilder than others”

A young cheetah turns up orphaned in South Africa, and Xan (Alex Michaeletos), a boy living there with his father Peter (Campbell Scott), takes her in and raises her as a pet. She is soon his closest friend, following him through the days like a dog would. Carroll Ballard, in his last film before retiring, films the animal and the open country with the patience of someone who has always preferred to watch.
