In 2009, two corporate spies with a romantic history, Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts) and Ray Koval (Clive Owen), work for rival companies fighting to corner the market on a medical innovation. They team up to run a long con on the executives paying them, and Tony Gilroy cuts the story out of order, so the timeline shifts under the viewer. What drives the film is whether two people who lie for a living can trust each other.
