(1930)Directed by Alexander Dovzhenko79 minDrama

A tractor arrives in a Ukrainian village during the First Five-Year Plan, and Vasyl (Semyon Svashenko), a young member of the Communist Party youth division, drives it across the kulak landowners' fields. Alexander Dovzhenko shot this silent film in the wheat and apple orchards, and the older villagers watch the machine with dread. Vasyl is engaged to Natalia (Elena Maksimova), and the film keeps returning to the two of them together while the village turns hostile.
