“A comedy of families, a chip shop... and a very randy dog.”

George Khan (Om Puri) runs a fish-and-chip shop in Salford in 1971 and expects his children to live as Pakistani Muslims, though their mother, Ella (Linda Bassett), is English and they were all born in Britain. The kids slip the rules on dress, food and religion wherever they can. Damien O'Donnell keeps the camera in the cramped house and the shop, so the family always seems to be talking over one another.
