Why does Don Hewes (Fred Astaire) go looking for a new partner the day before Easter in 1911? Nadine Hale (Ann Miller) has just refused to sign a new contract with him, and he takes on Hannah Brown (Judy Garland), an untested newcomer, to show he doesn't miss her. He promises to make Hannah a star by next year's Easter parade. Charles Walters stages the Irving Berlin numbers, "Steppin' Out with My Baby" and "A Couple of Swells" among them, in full Technicolor.
