Eastern Promises

“Every sin leaves a mark.”

In London, a fourteen-year-old girl dies giving birth, leaving behind a diary written in Russian. Anna Ivanovna Khitrova (Naomi Watts), the midwife who delivered the baby, starts reading it and follows the trail to the Trans-Siberian Restaurant, run by Semyon (Armin Mueller-Stahl). David Cronenberg puts Anna across from Nikolai Luzhin (Viggo Mortensen), the family's driver, whose quiet attention is the first thing she can't read.
