“A classic tale of sex, revenge, and love”

The king has handed a young man of humble birth titles and favors, and the court cannot account for it. Derek Jarman adapts Christopher Marlowe's play in 14th-century England, where Piers Gaveston (Andrew Tiernan) rises fast and Queen Isabella (Tilda Swinton) watches him with a cold eye. Edward (Steven Waddington) keeps Piers close and does not hide it, even as the nobles around him begin to count the cost.
