Effie Gray

“The Celebrity Scandal of the Victorian era.”

In Victorian England, the teenage Effie Gray (Dakota Fanning) marries John Ruskin (Greg Wise), the most admired art critic of his day. She moves into his world of galleries and drawing rooms, where the marriage stays strangely unconsummated and no one will explain why. Emma Thompson wrote the script, and Richard Laxton directs it in rich, heavy interiors that hold Effie in place.
