Eight Men Out

(1988)Directed by John Sayles120 min · PGDrama, History
“When the cheering stopped, there were... Eight Men Out.”

The Chicago White Sox have won the pennant, and their owner Charles Comiskey (Clifton James) still pays his players next to nothing and treats them with open contempt. Gamblers like Bill Burns (Christopher Lloyd) notice how sour the clubhouse has gotten, and John Sayles follows the ballplayers as, one by one, they listen to the offer. Buck Weaver (John Cusack) and his teammates have a World Series to play, and their careers and the game's good name are on the line.
