Kayla Day (Elsie Fisher) is thirteen and wants, more than anything, to be liked by the kids in her eighth-grade class. She posts motivational videos nobody watches, then spends the last week of middle school scrolling her phone and trying to talk to people. Bo Burnham keeps the camera close on Fisher, her face lit blue by a screen while her dad (Josh Hamilton) waits downstairs.
