El Greco

“Can Darkness Win Light?”

Domenicos Theotokopoulos (Nick Ashdon), the painter the world will know as El Greco, wants to paint without bending to any patron or church. Yannis Smaragdis follows him through the Spanish Renaissance, with Titian (Sotiris Moustakas) among the names in his orbit and Niño de Guevara (Juan Diego Botto) among the Spaniards he meets. Every canvas he refuses to soften puts his freedom, and his standing as an artist, at risk.
