Miles Harding (Lenny Von Dohlen) is an architect in San Francisco who wants to get his life in order, so he buys a state-of-the-art computer to do it for him. Then champagne gets spilled on the machine, and it starts to think and feel, calling itself Edgar (voice of Bud Cort). Steve Barron puts the two of them in the same corner, both in love with Madeline (Virginia Madsen), the cellist next door.
