Elephant Walk

(1954)Directed by William Dieterle103 minRomance, Adventure, Drama
“One man claimed the land. Two men claimed the woman who lived there.”

John Wiley (Peter Finch), a tea planter visiting England at the end of the war, marries Ruth (Elizabeth Taylor) and brings her home to Elephant Walk, his Ceylon plantation. William Dieterle shows her the big house, the servants, the tea, and the plantation manager Dick Carver (Dana Andrews), all of it built across an old elephant path. A wife can live in comfort, the film says plainly, and still be alone.
