Elina: As If I Wasn't There

In rural Sweden in the early 1950s, nine-year-old Elina (Natalie Minnevik) returns to school after tuberculosis, the illness that killed her father, in a Finnish-speaking family her community looks down on. Klaus Härö follows her as the schoolmistress Tora Holm (Bibi Andersson) singles her out for questioning her authority. Between Elina and Miss Holm stands a long contest of wills, with Elina's mother and sister trying to stand between them.
