“On the streets of Rio only the elite survive”

Captain Nascimento (Wagner Moura) wants out of BOPE, Rio's Special Police Operations Battalion, but he cannot leave before he finds someone to take his place. In 1997, with the pope due to visit, he is ordered to clear the drug dealers from a dangerous slum near where the pontiff will stay. José Padilha films the raids and the training grounds in a harsh, jittery style, with Nascimento's voice running over it all.
