“Woman. Warrior. Queen.”

Spain's army is gathering against England, and Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) learns that the danger is also close at home, in betrayal inside her own family. Shekhar Kapur dresses her in towering gowns and stiff ruffs and fills the court with candlelight, gold and heavy velvet. With Sir Francis Walsingham (Geoffrey Rush) at her side, she has to protect her people and her throne, and the cost of failing falls on the whole country.
