Ella Cinders (Colleen Moore) scrubs and fetches for her stepmother Ma Cinders (Vera Lewis) and her stepsisters Lotta and Prissy Pill, who give her all the work and none of the thanks. When she wins a local beauty contest, she leaves for Hollywood and the film job she has been promised. Alfred E. Green keeps the silent comedy brisk, and the milkman Waite Lifter (Lloyd Hughes) is the one person in town who wants her to go and hopes she comes back.
