Ella McCay (Emma Mackey) is an idealistic young politician who wants to do the job well, and she is about to take over from the state's longtime governor, her mentor. Getting there means managing a family that keeps pulling her away from the office, starting with her aunt Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis). James L. Brooks fills the film with a crowd of relatives and colleagues, and the one who matters most is Ryan Newell (Jack Lowden), the man at her side.
