Elstree Calling

(1930)Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Jack Hulbert, Paul Murray83 minMusic, Comedy

In 1930, a live television broadcast from Elstree Studios turns out to be a string of nineteen vaudeville acts, with Tommy Handley as the host holding them together. Alfred Hitchcock directed some of the linking material, and Jack Hulbert appears as himself alongside Teddy Brown and Helen Burnell. Donald Calthrop plays Petruchio in a Taming of the Shrew sketch, and Handley keeps the show moving from one turn to the next.
