Emancipation

Louisiana, the 1860s, and the Emancipation Proclamation has just been signed. Peter (Will Smith), an enslaved man, runs from the work camp that holds him, set on getting back to his wife Dodienne (Charmaine Bingwa) and their children. Slave catchers led by Fassel (Ben Foster) follow with dogs, and Antoine Fuqua films the swamp in a washed-out, near-colorless grade, so the whole journey feels drained of warmth.
