Embrace of the Serpent

“A poetic and haunting journey into a lost world.”

Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman, is the last survivor of his people, and he lives alone in the jungle. Two scientists find him in separate decades: Theodor Koch-Grunberg (Jan Bijvoet), a German ethnographer, and later Richard Evans Schultes (Brionne Davis), an American botanist. Each asks him to guide a river journey toward yakruna, a sacred plant that can heal, and Ciro Guerra shows what happens when one way of knowing the forest meets another.
