Emmanuelle (Sylvia Kristel) wants to keep living the way she and her husband Jean (Umberto Orsini), an architect, always have, free of ownership. In the Seychelles, a casual affair with a film director begins to matter more than either of them planned, and Jean reacts the way a traditional husband would. François Leterrier films the island in slow, sun-bleached light and lets the heat do much of the work.
