Empire of the Sun

“To survive in a world at war, he must find a strength greater than all the events that surround him.”

When the Japanese invade Shanghai, Jim (Christian Bale), a privileged English boy, loses his parents in the panic and ends up in an internment camp for foreigners. Steven Spielberg follows him there as he attaches himself to Basie (John Malkovich), an American sailor who keeps an eye on him. Jim stays upright and boyish among the other prisoners, a skinny English kid in a camp full of grown men.
