“What you don't know can kill you.”

Ruben Castle (Robert Urich), a retired New York cop, wants a quiet vacation in the American West and a break from the work he left behind. Then a series of cattle killings in a small Colorado town pulls him into the sheriff's investigation, and Alan Rudolph keeps the ranch country grainy and uneasy. Harriet Purdue (JoBeth Williams), the town's new sheriff, works the case alongside him, and the two of them lean on each other.
