English Vinglish

“The first time only happens once.”

Shashi Godbole (Sridevi) makes snacks and sweets for a living, and her husband and daughter tease her whenever her English falters. On her first trip to the United States, she signs up for an English-speaking course in Manhattan, where Laurent (Mehdi Nebbou) sits in the same classroom. Gauri Shinde wrote Shashi from her own mother, and Shashi keeps showing up for the lessons, wanting to be taken seriously at her own table.
