Equinox Flower

In a Japan of company men and arranged introductions, Wataru Hirayama (Shin Saburi) is known among his friends as a modern father, easy about how other people marry off their children. Then his daughter Setsuko (Ineko Arima) announces she loves a coworker and will choose her own husband, and Yasujirō Ozu follows the argument through tidy rooms and polite tea. Wataru keeps his smile and gives no ground, a man holding to a position his own talk has already abandoned.
