“I am yours and you are mine.”
Martin Dysart (Richard Burton), a psychiatrist, takes on a case he wants to understand: a seventeen-year-old stable boy, Alan Strang (Peter Firth), who put out the eyes of six horses with a metal spike. The boy's father is loud and opinionated, his mother genteel and devout, and Dysart works through them to find where the boy's fixation began. Sidney Lumet keeps the film close to its stage origins, with long, spoken confrontations between doctor and patient.
