Henry Spencer (Jack Nance) just wants to get through his days in a desolate industrial landscape, and a dinner with his girlfriend Mary X (Charlotte Stewart) and her parents pulls him into fatherhood. Then comes a newborn so deformed that its screams fill the apartment all night. David Lynch shot it in black and white, and Henry stays shut in with the crying, with no one to turn to.
