Eroica
Warsaw in 1944, during the uprising, and Dzidziuś Górkiewicz (Edward Dziewoński) wants no part of it. Andrzej Munk splits the film into two stories, the second set in a prisoner-of-war camp where Polish officers keep their hopes for escape alive on the strength of a legendary breakout by one of their own. Dzidziuś is selfish and feckless, a man who has spent the war looking after himself, and the war keeps coming for him anyway.
