Escape from New York

(1981)Directed by John Carpenter99 min · RAction, Thriller, Science Fiction
“1997. New York City is a walled, maximum security prison. Breaking out is impossible. Breaking in is insane.”

Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), a decorated soldier turned criminal, is dropped into Manhattan, now a walled prison where the inmates run the streets. The President (Donald Pleasence) has crash-landed somewhere inside, and Commissioner Hauk (Lee Van Cleef) gives Snake one night to bring him out. John Carpenter's script gives Snake a bargain he can't walk away from: the clock keeps running, and so does the island's ruler, the Duke of New York (Isaac Hayes).
