Prisoners in a German camp on a Greek island are working out how to get free, and a good number of them have their eyes on a treasure kept in a monastery at the top of the island's mountain. Otto Hecht (Roger Moore) is the camp's Austrian commandant, and Professor Blake (David Niven) leads the men inside. Cosmatos shot it on Rhodes, but the film belongs to Hecht, a man trying to serve a regime while chasing his own prize.
