“Richer than Getty, stranger than Hughes, the bizarre tale of Jack McCann.”

In 1925, the prospector Jack McCann (Gene Hackman) strikes a vast seam of gold and becomes one of the richest men in the world. Twenty years on he lives on a Caribbean island he owns, with an alcoholic wife, a headstrong daughter, Tracy (Theresa Russell), and Miami mobsters who want to build a casino there. Nicolas Roeg cuts the film in jolting, fractured scenes, so McCann's fortune and his fear of those closest to him seem to pull apart together.
