Philo Beddoe (Clint Eastwood) drives a truck, wins bare-knuckle fights for money, and shares his home with a 165-pound orangutan named Clyde. Then he falls for Lynn Halsey-Taylor (Sondra Locke), a singer who keeps slipping away, and he follows her across the Southwest with a motorcycle gang and a pair of cops close behind. James Fargo films the road, the bars and the brawls plainly, without hurry or polish.
