Everybody Go Home!

Lt. Alberto Innocenzi (Alberto Sordi) is an Italian officer who learns that Italy has surrendered to the Allies and that his unit has simply stopped existing. Luigi Comencini follows him and a few stragglers, among them Assunto Ceccarelli (Serge Reggiani) and Sergente Fornaciari (Martin Balsam), as they set out on foot for their homes. Alberto walks the long road in his army uniform, still carrying his rank, heading toward a father waiting for him.
