“Here for a good time. Not a long time.”

Jake Bradford (Blake Jenner), a freshman pitcher in Texas in 1980, wants to find out who he is before classes start. He moves into the baseball team's house and spends the weekend with his new teammates, among them Finnegan (Glen Powell) and Charlie Willoughby (Wyatt Russell), and meets Beverly (Zoey Deutch) along the way. Richard Linklater treats those few days as a stretch of time where nobody is watching yet, and the freedom is the whole subject.
