Everything Is Illuminated

“Leave Normal Behind.”

Jonathan Safran Foer (Elijah Wood) travels from America to Ukraine carrying a single photograph of the woman who hid his grandfather from the Nazis. His guides are Alex (Eugene Hutz), a young translator with his own take on English, and Alex's grandfather (Boris Lyoskin), who drives them in a small car toward a village that was later razed. Liev Schreiber's debut follows them in search of her, though what they might find in that place is more than a name.
