“The secrets that hold us together can also tear us apart.”

One hot summer in 1962, ten-year-old Eve (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) sees a moment between her family's secrets and betrayals that she cannot take back, and memory in this Louisiana parish proves a slippery thing. Kasi Lemmons follows the Batistes through the heat, among them Louis (Samuel L. Jackson), the charming doctor, and his wife Roz (Lynn Whitfield). The family's hidden wrongs are close to the surface now, and one wrong look could bring it all down.
