Experimenter

“Illusion sets the stage. Deception reveals the truth.”

At Yale in 1961, volunteers are told to press a switch that sends an electric shock to a man strapped into a chair in the next room, and most of them keep pressing even as he begs them to stop. The man behind the experiment is Stanley Milgram (Peter Sarsgaard), whose wife Sasha (Winona Ryder) stays beside him as the accusations of deception pile up. Michael Almereyda has Sarsgaard turn and speak to the audience, while Sasha waits at home in 1961.
