“The secret is sleeping in the trees.”

In 1750, Reverend Will Smythe (Dennis Lipscomb) is driven out of a small British colony for adultery, and his followers go with him. They travel downriver by raft, past the western frontier, to start a settlement of their own in a forest nobody has claimed. Avery Crounse shoots it in grain and fog, and Smythe leads his people on, sure that God sent him this way.
