“No dream is ever just a dream.”

In 1990s Manhattan, Dr. Bill Harford (Tom Cruise) and his wife Alice (Nicole Kidman) go to a Christmas party, and a few nights later she tells him about a man she once fantasized about. Stanley Kubrick adapts Arthur Schnitzler's 1926 novella Dream Story, and Bill's search for a sexual encounter takes him to a secret society's masked gathering. At the center is a marriage that finds out how little each person knows of the other's desires.
