Fahim
Fahim (Assad Ahmed) is a boy from Bangladesh, a gifted chess player who arrives in France as an immigrant and has to find his footing in a country he does not know. Sylvain Charpentier (Gérard Depardieu), a gruff chess coach, sees what the boy can do at the board, and Pierre-François Martin-Laval builds the film around the two of them. Fahim carries his family's hopes into every tournament, and the film keeps asking what winning will cost him.
