Fairytale

Sokurov's film is set in purgatory, a place of fog and stone where Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and Churchill wait among the dead. Aleksandr Sokurov builds the figures from archival footage and walks them through the halls and doorways, talking among themselves, with Napoleon and Jesus also among those present. The men who once decided the fate of the planet are made to stand in line and talk, and the film treats their power as finished.
