Fanfan la Tulipe (Vincent Perez) is a swashbuckling lover who wants nothing more than the next woman and the next duel. Then Adeline La Franchise (Penélope Cruz) tells him that if he joins the army of Louis XV (Didier Bourdon), he is destined to marry one of the king's daughters, and he signs up. Gérard Krawczyk, remaking the 1952 film, shoots it as a swashbuckler in full costume, and it screened out of competition at Cannes in 2003.
