Far from the Madding Crowd

In Victorian England, Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan) takes charge of a farm and answers to no one. Three men notice: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer who works with his hands, the prosperous bachelor William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), and the handsome, reckless Sergeant Troy (Tom Sturridge). Thomas Vinterberg adapts Hardy's novel around what each man wants from her, and what she is willing to hand over.
