Farewell, My Queen

It is July 1789 at Versailles, and the court is still going about its mornings while word from Paris gets worse by the hour. Sidonie Laborde (Léa Seydoux) is a young servant whose work is reading aloud to Marie Antoinette (Diane Kruger), and she knows the queen's moods better than anyone. Benoît Jacquot films the palace's gilt and candlelight up close, so the grandeur feels lived in and already slipping.
